Halloween Mischief

Last night we threw the Halloween Party to end all parties. Everyone dressed to the hilt including yours truly, Raggedy Ann. We had pumpkin bowling with gourds as pins and other contests. Mike "Dick in a Box" Geelhoed won the costume contest and Dan "Charlie Chaplin" Valencia won the pumpkin naming exhibition--both received one pair of festive socks from our partners at Target.

The night didn't end so much as the morning began. Six of us rang it in at the Golden Nugget on Clark in full regalia.

Fast forward to 2:30pm today after a little sleep and some cleaning. Long walk out to the lake to wake up and re-calibrate. With iPod in tow and my Alternative playlist on shuffle, I wandered down to the pier that runs parallel to Lakeshore Dr. out by North Avenue Beach. Grafitti on the pier read, "Of all the roads to take in life, make sure some are dirt."

On the return trip, I followed the shoreline North, chatted with the owners of a great Dane and a miniature golden retriever, and continued on, dodging thin, rhythmic waves. Little shells the size of my finger nails lined the edge of the soggy sand. When I walked on the shells they crunched under my sneaker like twigs in the forest.

Heading west on Fullerton I squinted through the late afternoon sunlight. I love the translucent-prism globes that dot the ends of your lashes when you look up.
