Stormy

Cycling N. on Clark, 5:45pm. The sky ahead is clear with great puffy clouds, but in all other directions is the sallow hue of a healing bruise. Caught at the Clark-Lasalle intersection waiting for a green light, the rain sweeps north in a wave. It splashes my back a split second before my shoulders, arms, wrists, fingers. The cyclists all look at one another. We smile. Before the green, we go. I race forward--on the cusp of a storm--and beat it home.
