My mom arrived Friday night from NH for her yearly visit out to see me. She met Jon that evening and we spent the rest of the night talking. Yesterday, after a leisurely breakfast that stretched into the early afternoon, we helped Lauren and Aaron break down some spare moving boxes and afterward the four of us walked to Uptown for some bubble tea. I don't know the name of the place, but it's just east of the Argyle el stop. We ordered all different flavors: taro, green, mango and pineapple. And the tapioca varied as greatly: the traditional black, but also pink, green, purple, and white!
On the walk home, the sun came out from hiding so Mom and I decided to go to the Southport Street festival. We met up with Jon at the Montrose el and took the train the rest of the way. My favorite vendor yesterday had an incredible collection of matted prints that spanned all interests. From old maps to Disney, Picasso to Ivory Soap Flakes ads. Had I been alone, I could have spent an hour thumbing through the options. A couple bands started at 6pm. One folk band played a new song that never ends - yes it went on and on my friend.
After passing by a pizza vendor, I remembered Mom had never had Chicago deep dish pizza so the three of us took the train back to Montrose and ate at Giordano's. I'm already looking forward to the leftovers :)
To round out the evening, Jon drove us to Blockbuster where I applied for a card (though thinking back on it I might have another one somewhere), looked unsuccessfully for Gilmore Girls (Mom still hasn't seen it), and rented P.S. I Love You instead. Jon drove us back to my place and rest of the night I ate Sour Patch Kids while trying not to cry. Doesn't sound like a good end to the night, but it was.
While we didn't go to bed until a little before midnight, I'm still awake at this wretched hour. I can't really blame the cats; they got up around 6:30 for breakfast but the real culprit is thin walls. My upstairs neighbors decided to get an early start to their day and the low thud of men walking with shoes on above me prevented the onset of sleep post cat feeding. They say "the early bird catches the worm" but all I want to catch is 40 more winks of sleep! Oh well.

Your countdown timer still is not working - I thought in your last reply you thought it was fixed???
Thanks for entertaining Mom! She loved her visit.
Love,
Dad
