Today I could have bought a new car. Instead, I paid off my student loans. When reviewing my finances this week with some new money management software, it became blatantly clear how much money I was losing in interest each month I kept my student loans. No long-term CD or savings account could come close to beating the interest I paid to the Student Loan People and to Campus Partners. So today, I paid them off and am debt free for the first time in five-and-a-half years. It's a pretty good feeling.

(For the record, I was not considering buying a car--it's just an interesting comparison)
