Let the Research Begin

Time to buckle down and get serious about some 2008 resolutions. I know, I know, it's a little early but I've officially decided to learn an instrument: guitar. Rachel and are looking for private lessons for the both of us starting in January, so now I need to find my guitar. Today I headed over the the Guitar Centre (the only guitar store I could find open on a Sunday in Chicago), and started trying out different brands and taking down model numbers. Based on this first excursion out, the top contenders are:

1) Yamaha FG735S
2) Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo
3) Martin 000X1

These all get good reviews online but I'm going to take my time with this search. When I'm home for Thanksgiving (t - 2 days), I'm hoping I can convince my mom to go with me to Cheshire Music so she can give me some pointers (she taught acoustic guitar while I was growing up but I never learned...pity).

Then once I'm back in Chicago I plan on making the trek out to N Avenue Guitars and Midwest Buy and Sell to see what the used guitar offering in Chicago looks like. I'm going to be so good at playing the C chord by the time the lessons begin--it's the only chord I've got down at this point so that's the chord I play over and over to hear the differences between guitars and feel their action.

Patience is a virtue that's definitely trying my patience right now.
