Cycling South on Clark a white Toyota 4 Runner started playing cat and mouse with me. The driver seemed upset by the fact that while he was stalled behind a line of cars at a red light, I could edge up to the front of the line. When passing me, the 4 Runner refused to give up a little room and accelerated at an unnecessary speed. This infuriated me and I thought, "How great would it be to beat this SUV to work."Once we hit River North, the lights stopped working in my favor and I lost track of Mr. 4 Runner. Oh well. You can't win them all, I thought. And then I realized something. I realized that it's not about the cars I beat, but about the joy of the ride. Making it about the race could a) get me killed, and b) takes all the fun out of it.
New life rule: go at my speed and don't put stock in how fast all the others are going.
