Christmas & A Donation of Sorts

When I sleep in on Saturday, I hear comforting sounds:

-a muffled tv in the basement apartment below my bedroom
-snow compacting underneath boots from the sidewalk below my window
-the radiator clicking in the kitchen
-a kitty yawning and rustling covers

Lesley and I decorated for Christmas last weekend and the living room turned out beautiful. It's my favorite spot in the house. We have our 3.5' tree with old and new decorations as well as a string of half lit lights. The box lied to us. "If one goes out..." I guess it's the very definition of a Charlie Brown Tree. Hanging from the fireplace mantel are two stockings and mine is filled with catnip mice for the kitties. And above the stockings we have a poinsettia garland woven between white candles and the stocking holders.

Later today Lesley and I are going to the Lincoln Park Blood Drive that LifeSource is hosting. I feel badly that I haven't given blood since college. Walking to Norris (the student union) was very convenient. My office is doing a blood drive in a couple weeks, but I'll already be on vacation. I figure, it doesn't matter where you give, so long as you do. I feel very strongly about giving blood, signing up for the bone marrow registry, and being an organ donor. My uncle had a lung transplant in 1992 which extended his life for another 8 years. I realize blood, bone marrow, and organ donation is a highly personal choice that not everyone can take part in, but I do like to share my family's story as a testimony to its importance. Maybe it will make a difference.

Post Script: Donation successful. A+ (haha).
