A Word

It's the last day of 2007. Lesley and Sarah invited me out last night and we chatted over Guinness, Harp, and Blue Moon. I asked them what one word would sum up 2007. After giving it some thought, I came up with my one word, but only after contemplating many others. Words such as "roommate" or "Briggs" or "single" or "cycling." But while those words all captured pieces of 2007, I needed something more all-encompassing. What I settled on was "growth."

I think 2007 marked a year filled with growth. Getting over someone I loved. Adding a new pet. Finding new hobbies. Welcoming a new roommate. Moving into a new apartment. Deepening friendships. Ascending the corporate ladder. Making Chicago home. Not a bad year.

So here's to 2008! What will next year's word be, I wonder?
