Emails to Friends
I wrote an email recently to my friend that sums a few things up and thought I'd share:
"I hope you had a lovely holiday as well. I've been in NH for the last week at my parent's house just relaxing (playing lots of cards with the family because there's nothing else to do but watch the snow melt =) We had a white Christmas but it's starting to fade a little bit each day.
While I was home I read the book "Atonement" so that I can go see the movie without feeling like an English major failure. It's a quick read and worth it, though I have to say I'm sick of authors leaving endings open ended. The last three novels I've read leave me with little to no closure.
I fly home tomorrow (assuming my 7pm flight leaves Hartford, CT) so I can see the kitties and ease back into normal life. I'm taking Friday off from work as well, so I don't go back until January 2! In all honesty I'll probably dig through my emails this weekend and get a head start on some stuff so I'm not so overwhelmed on the 2nd. Work's going well. I'm not sure what Lesley's mentioned, but I got a promotion in November and recently learned what new team I'll be working on in the Chicago office. I'll still be doing my old job until they can find my replacement, but it's a step in the right direction. What are you doing for work these days?
My fried Lauren (the girl I invited to see that second city performance with us) is having a little New Year's Eve party so I'm going Wilmette for that. Should be fun, but I wont know many of the people there so I'm interested to see how that goes. At the very least, I'll have Lauren's dog, Kiera, to kiss at midnight. Do you have any plans for New Year's Eve?
I asked my family today if they have any resolutions/goals for 2008. Here are my top goals I want completed by the close of 2008:
1) Leave the country!
2) Learn to play guitar, at least one song well
3) Volunteer more -- perhaps the animal shelter Finn and Briggs came from
My thinking is that the more people who know my goals, the more accountable I'll feel and I'll actually achieve them. That's the hope anyway."
Signing off. Bye bye NH. See you next year, probably next Chirstmas...
